CitySUMMER is for young people who want a higher level of independence, professional experience, and the challenge of an internship, while maintaining the community, structure and mentoring support of our CityGAP program.

The CitySUMMER program includes:

• An orientation to ground participants in the history, architecture and social geography of NYC, connect the participants to each other, orient them in NYC (for the non-New Yorkers), and establish internship and independent project goals

• An internship that we arrange with our partners, or that you find on your own (this can also include stand-alone classes instead of an internship) 

• Potential opportunities include: NYC Dept. of Transportation, La Morada Mutual Aid, South Bronx Unite, Broadway Alliance, NYC Dept. of City Planning, NYC Housing Authority, Waterfront Alliance, Rockaway Initiative for Sustainability and Equity, HOWL! Art & Archive, GrowNYC, Trust for Governors Island, WEACT, Leroy Street Studio Architects, etc.

• Mentorship during the internship to support participants in reflection and skill building

• Weekly meetings with the group to share work, challenges and strategies

• A final presentation of your internship work with mentors and partners

CitySUMMER dates are flexible. Our housing partner FOUND Study Midtown East provides lovely, well maintained dorm style housing along with excellent amenities in an accessible Manhattan location.
