Mott Haven Oral History Project
The Mott Haven Oral History project documents the history of Mott Haven through the voices of people who have lived it.
The Mott Haven Oral History project exists to record, share, and amplify the stories and analysis of Mott Haven residents. We are working with and making meaning from these stories as we record them, doing this work together and in public, initially through our oral history walk and our first listening party. The first audience for this project is Mott Haven residents.
The Climate Museum
This video is part of the Talking Climate series. The Climate Museum offers many learning opportunities, including:

Sustainable South Bronx
Founded by Majora Carter in 2001, Sustainable South Bronx (SSBx) began out of a desire to advocate for parks and green development in the South Bronx and to promote environmental justive in a neighborhood that has borne, and continues to bear, a heavy environmental burden for the rest of the city. In 2015, we joined forces with The HOPE Program, a leading workforce development organization in New York City, to expand our impact through holistic, best-in-class green jobs training.
Columbia Center for Children's Environmental Health
The mission of CCCEH is to undertake a comprehensive community-based assessment of environmental risks to infants and children, and to develop strategies for reducing, and ultimately preventing, those risks. The Center is responsive to the urgent health needs of the minority communities in Northern Manhattan and the South Bronx, which suffer uniquely high rates of asthma, adverse birth outcomes, impaired development, and other diseases
MillionTreesNYC - Bronx
In 2007, NYC Parks launched our ambitious MillionTreesNYC initiative - to plant and care for one million trees in New York City. It has led to a host of valuable research regarding the urban forest and has transformed acres of parkland and streets into ecologically healthy forests that provide benefits to all New Yorkers.
WE ACT
WE ACT's mission is to build healthy communities by ensuring that people of color and/or low income residents participate meaningfully in the creation of sound and fair environmental health and protection policies and practices.
WE ACT envisions a community that has:
• informed and engaged residents who participate fully in decision-making on key issues that impact their health and community.
• strong and equal environmental protections
• increased environmental health through community-based participatory research and evidence-based campaigns.

New York State Nurses Association
Nurses know that the climate crisis is also a health crisis. As frontline caregivers, we see firsthand the impacts of climate change, including increases in disease and catastrophic harm from extreme weather events. We have an important role to play in reducing harm to our patients - and the planet.
NYSNA has deepened its commitment to combating climate change and supporting communities in need.
• Started the NY Relief Network (NYRN) which has deployed medical missions
• Created the NYSNA Climate Justice Committee to combat the effects of climate change, such as disease from air pollution, inadequate access to clean water, and substandard housing
• Part of coalitions that work on forward-thinking clean energy and good job solutions, and build the movements for climate justice
ACE: Action for the Climate Emergency
ACE educates, inspires, and supports young people to lead the fight for their future. We ensure they have everything they need to understand the science and advocate for solutions to the climate emergency.
We believe in justice and equity. Communities most impacted by racial justice and social inequity are also those most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. We place special focus on lifting up these voices within the global climate movement.
We believe in the creativity and power of young people to lead the way in imagining a better future - a future safe from climate chaos, free from environmental injustice, rich in biodiversity and prosperous for all.
Mesothelioma is a rare type of cancer that’s commonly in the lungs. This cancer is increasingly dangerous for people with asthma.
Mesothelioma.net is an advocacy and support group dedicated to providing all the latest in cancer research, treatment, and aid. Their team has worked diligently with health professionals to compile fact-checked and physician approved information regarding this disease and how it affects the body and how it can be treated.
Please also go to https://mesothelioma.net/pleural-mesothelioma/, which has information more specifically about the lung variety of mesothelioma, and therefore connects more directly to asthma.
